“A major reason royalty free stock photography has become so popular is the ubiquity of the digital camera. The upside is that quality and variety have increased while cost has decreased. The downside is that you’re almost always compromising, as it’s difficult to find a perfect match to your original concept. The fact that it is royalty-free means you have to accept that a photo you use may show up elsewhere. As a safeguard I always try to alter the image when possible by giving it a unique treatment in some manner.”
